Daphne has "behaved" as well as she can on the information she has. If there's something Sara wants or doesn't want that she hasn't mentioned, that's not really Daphne's fault.
This is really the first relationship for both of them, and, typically, they haven't exactly covered themselves with glory in it.

So when Daphne treated Sara like crap because Sara was ignorant of Daphne's advances
that was behaving? There's also what's gone on behind the scenes that we don't know about.
Which means Sara may base her reluctance on items we don't know about because more pressing
items needed to be presented to us, the readers.

Daphne may not have been kissing on another girl,
but she certainly isn't known for having an easy going manner
(see her reason for helping set up the soda incident as well).

Damn, I just realized that Sara was thinking that Aggie was almost close enough to taste
the soda in the first incident, and in the second she was kissing (or being kissed by) Penny.
It's funny how things come full circle.

One possible interpretation is that Saraphne was always more-or-less born of convenience, Sara doesn't feel that much spark between them, and that now that she's aware of other options, she feels trapped in a relationship that doesn't satisfy her and wants out (but is handling it poorly).

Wooot! Sooooda Cannnnnnn!

Daphne, when called on her shit, changed her behavior for Sara. And that's about the best you can expect in a relationship.

People have been saying she's been behaving SINCE THEY WERE IN A RELATIONSHIP, Ben. Different context. And really, she worked on "behaving" pretty much since being called out on the Idiot Pill situation--which led to her actually agonizing when Sara turned up the heat, because she was trying very hard to not think of Sara in a romantic/sexual fashion, when Sara was deliberately sending out every signal in that book she never read.

There's also what's gone on behind the scenes that we don't know about.

Occam's Critical Razor: If we needed to know it to understand the story, it probably would've been revealed to us by now (there are times when this isn't true, but unlike, for instance, the Belleville Interviews, this isn't a mystery-story). Beyond that, we may as well consider the possibility that Sara's discovered that Daphne's working as Nick's 'spotter' for the head-collection.

Daphne may not have been kissing on another girl,

True, but again, the only thing we've seen her do in the context of the relationship is be overly affectionate.

Makes you wonder what, exactly, they put in that soda... it's got a better recipe than the original Coca-Cola....

I just figured I'd throw this in here.

....

Fred moved at a fast pace up the driveway to Daphne's house, almost at a dead run. He hadn't told anyone, but he was worried - it had been a week since he'd been to Meg's graduation, and this was the first chance he'd had to see Daphne. He didn't know what happened. All he could find out from Sara was that they weren't together, and every time he'd called Daphne's number or went over to visit found him getting booted to voicemail or told by Daphne's mother that she wasn't feeling well. When Daphne finally DID call him and ask him to come over, it was with a mixture of relief at her being okay and worry about what kind of shape he'd find her in when he got there.

Before he could ring the bell, the door opened. In the doorway stood Daphne, dressed like usual, a simple unicolor top and track pants, a small smile on her face belying the puffed eyes.

....

Sitting on her bed later, Fred was amazed at how COMPOSED Daphne was. By all rights, she should have been a raging lunatic, halfway through an amazing display of both temper and tears. Instead, she was calmly sitting in the chair next to the bed, talking in her usual fast-paced delivery while they sipped iced tea she'd brought from the kitchen.

"Yeah, she broke up with me. Said she wasn't sure she could COMMIT herself," he could hear the bitterness finally coming out in Daphne's voice. "Of course, she made sure to have her BITCH friend get you out of the way. It was probably Penny's idea in the first place."

"I don't think it was Penny's idea, Daph. Remember, she's been on that set all that time, and only talking to you."

"Oh, I don't mean breaking up with me. I meant getting you out of the picture when she did it. I realize now that Sara's nothing but a tease, anyways. They all do it."

Fred leaned forward at that. "They all do what? I don't understand." He leaned back, took another drink of tea. The air was on, but it seemed like the June weather wasn't even noticing. It was HOT.

"Yeah, all of that group, bunch of teases. Look at Aggie." Daphne snorted. "All that time we were hanging out with her - 'Oh, I'm not gay!' Then she goes off running after that BITCH, Penny. No taste at all. And SARA. You know, it's not her first time dumping someone. I'm glad I moved on."

Fred shook his head. He wasn't quite sure he'd heard her right. "Moved on?" He wiped the sweat off while he waited for Daphne to explain. It was hard to keep up, because she was talking even faster than usual.

"Oh, yeah! I moved on! I got an email the day after the breakup from another girl who used to go to our school. Evidently Sara blew her off before she hooked up with me. I feel dumb for not seeing it coming, what with her and that redhead on the TV show rooming together. But I'll fix her."

"Fix?" The word came out slowly. The roof of his mouth seemed to have been replaced with extra sticky Rice Krispie treats. His tongue seemed to want to stick every time he opened his mouth.

"Fix." Daphne smiled, a slow smile, too wide. Fred thought it looked funny on her. "Yes, her, that BITCH her friend, Aggie, all of them. We've figured out what to do to them, no worries."

"We?" The Rice Krispies had been replaced with industrial strength epoxy, and the heat! It was so hot, Fred was starting to see spots and have trouble focusing on Daphne's placid face. He struggled to follow her next reply.

"Yeah, we. You know Cyndi? Well, she ended up having a breakdown and taking therapy over at Belleville when Charlotte tried to kill her. Penny and the others were just lying about everything else. Charlotte did the rape video. Cyndi only did the popsicle stuff because Penny threatened her. Well, I got her email, started talking to her. She's a LOT nicer than people at school made her out to be. She helped me plan getting even with them, too, I've just got to do one little thing for her, she said."

"Wha...wha...Daph..." The spots had taken over. Fred was lying on his back in the middle of the bed, unable to move or speak coherently. It took all of his effort to force those three syllables out through his swollen, sticky tongue and turn his head to look at Daphne.

"Hush, now, Fred," Fred focused his gaze one more time as Daphne pulled a small videocamera from her closet and opened the tripod. "I've gotta hurry with this. The battery is almost dead in this thing, and they're showing Firefly reruns on SyFy in an hour."

Since we're (hopefully) heading for the scene change tonight I'll state my final odds on the situation.

1. I think Sara doesn't want to break up with Daphne, but she is prepared to if their problems can't be resolved.

2. I think the odds on the reason are: 45% Sara wants to be able to be friends with Lucy without worrying about Daphne being jealous. 45% Sara wants to be more than friends with Lucy, or her relationship with Lucy has shown her that her relationship with Daphne isn't enough. 10% some other reason which will be explained to us as part of the conversation.

Honestly, I'm on Daphne's side here. She's shown nothing but intense devotion for Sara, as far as we've seen. Sure, she's insecure, but we know she's got trust issues because of her stepdad.

Not that there are really 'sides', I just thought I'd input that.

Their relationship has always been unbalanced, as far as affections go. But lately Sara has been focussing more and more on Daphne's flaws, and, whether she realises it or not, has been comparing her to Lucy for quite some time. Sadistic as it sounds, I'm looking forward to seeing Daph's reaction.

I agree on there being no "sides" here.
While I've been on the Daphne-hate wagon for years, I'll admit she's done no real wrong in her relationship with Sara (not counting things that happened before they got together). But if Sara isn't happy with her, well...

Charlotte: *Typing away on her laptop* ...No she hasn't threatened me at all Duane. But can you explain who or what a Shepard Book is? She keeps calling me that.

Duane: *texting back* I was more worried about her calling you Saffron.
