What is Green Lantern Lisa's Achilles' heel?

Yellow. Why should she be any different from others in the Corps?

It's not easy being Green Lisa

Postby Alice Macher » Wed Dec 22, 2010 8:29 am

The Golden Age Green Lantern's one vulnerability was wood. Later, all members of the Green Lantern Corps were said to be vulnerable to the colour yellow.* Then that was retconned as merely psychosomatic. The point is, for most of DC Comics' history, Green Lanterns have had some sort of Achilles' heel, just as Superman's weaknesses are kryptonite and magic, and the Martian Manhunter's is fire.

So. If Lisa were, as in the "20never" strip, a Green Lantern, what would her vulnerability be?

* Except, presumably, for Rot Lop Fan of the Obsidian Depths. The linked article explains why.

Pixie Stix. It's not that they stop her powers from working--it's just that she wakes up five weeks later in a different galaxy, wearing a crown with the natives bowing down to her, and no memory what happened. Rumor has it that a villainous faction is attempting to figure out a way to smuggle Cadbury Egg Cereal into the Green Lantern Corps.

^ I see you read Shortpacked, good sir. Indeed, Cadbury Egg cereal is to Robin Desanto what pure Squishee syrup is to Bart Simpson.

But as for Pixie Stix, I think Lisa's built up an immunity to them. Remember that in Aggie's dream, when Lisa pleads with the tiger not to eat her, she claims her body is "90% Pixie Stix."

An RIAA lawsuit--maybe.

On the one hand: "I don't have that kind of money! Mom, dad, little help...?"

On the other, it might have the unintended effect of making her angry and energized enough to take on the RIAA and crush them against all odds, like Tina Young and friends did to A Few Notes in Divalicious. True, the RIAA isn't headed by an over-the-top raving maniac like AFN's Helena Dionysus, who was willing even to personally commit murder to get her way, but it has engaged in some rather sleazy, if technically legal AFAIK, practices to discourage file-sharing, and before that to transfer copyrights from musicians to recording labels through legalese. So seeing Lisa take on a fictionalized, [even] less restrained, group of recording industry bigwigs could be fun.

Has the yellow issue been retconned to be psychosomatic?

Last I checked, back in the 90s, it had been retconned to be a deliberate flaw implemented by the Guardians following an incident with a rogue Green Lantern.

I admit to not being an expert on all things Green Lantern, but FWIW, both the Wikipedia article on Green Lantern and the TV Tropes article Kryptonite Factor (see under "Comic Books") agree that the "psychosomatic, and thus surmountable by force of will" bit is the most recent explanation. The Wikipedia article says that retcon happened in 2006.

I'm not sure whether I now desperately want to see Robin and Lisa fight crime together or run screaming from the concept.

Oooh! Leslie and Daphne could be their sidekicks! "Lesbian Twin Powers, Activate!"

If I recall correctly, the current explanation is that the yellow weakness was the result of the Guardians imprisoning the yellow 'fear entity' Parallax in the Green Lanterns' main power battery on Oa. It was referred to as a 'rookie problem'- something that experienced Lanterns learn to overcome. Parallax escaped a few years ago, during the Sinestro Corps storyline, and I only read GL when my local library gets the trade paperback collections, so i have no idea what the current state of affairs is.

LOL. I'm not sure that dynamic would work, though. See, Lisa and Daphne teaming up would cause a "flightiness" imbalance. The more intelligent and level-headed Leslie as the hero and Daphne as the sidekick, maybe.

Now, Lisa in her Thunderbolt Trickster incarnation has good sidekicks in Penny and Aggie. They both balance and ground her in their own ways, Penny as the (sometimes brutally) down-to-earth head and Aggie as the idealistic heart. Plus, P and A, in my unapologetically shippy-fanservicey version of them, are a happy couple, thus preventing any hormonal/romantic tension from arising between either of them and Lisa, and possibly distracting them from the sleuthing and ass-kicking. Whereas Leslie and Daphne could cause problems with Robin and Sara, while Lisa and Robin, without the sidekicks, could either get... distracted or, more likely given their personalities, just not get along.

...I can't believe I'm even halfway seriously analyzing my own crack fic. Clearly, I need help. :?

Voted celebrity crush because naked cloud Aggies would probably be more like 1UP mushrooms.
I'm now convinced that if you play Pat Benatar's "Crimes of Passion" over Penny and Aggie it'll totally synch up.
