Another good guest comic. Still not sure what to make of these though.

Also, nice Powerpuff Girls game.

Usually it's the other way around, isn't it?

Hmm... Alternate dimension number one.

I don't know what's going on yet- but Michelle's father makes me... nervous.

I think this is pretty much a repeat of Shanna's mom from Faans, though perhaps to a lesser degree. The fun but irresponsible dad -- as his children grow up to be more mature the more they end up resenting the fact he is not.

I don't know anything about Fans, but I think it's at least partly the traditional father-daughter split. When girls are young, the father usually is more of the friend, the "fun parent." But fathers don't really react well to daughters growing up--they tend to stop updating their image of their daughters, so a 12-year old daughter is still 9 or 10 to them. And as girls grow older, they turn to their mothers/older sisters/aunts for advice and answers because there are some things a girl just can't talk to her dad about, and because their female family members recognize their growth and maturity.
I'm glad to see that other people remember SORRY! as well. Sometimes it seems like no one's ever heard of that game, much less played it.

You know, I have a feeling this comic is going to be frighteningly moving. It doesn't help that what you just said actually made me cry a little because it's absolutely true.
I was completely a Daddy's Little Girl until about high school, and while we're still close, I guess... well, I'm not exactly Daddy's Little Girl any more...

And I love SORRY! You gotta be crazy to not love it.

I feel the same way! When I was really little, me and my dad were best friends, but as I grew up and suddenly didn't think fart jokes weren't all that hilarious and took an interest in personal appearance (and, daresay, sexuality), my dad just couldn't adapt to the "new" me. Every conversation we have that involves my current interests usually includes "Since when? You used to..." and "God. I remember when..." and "How come you're not my best buddy anymore?" It's just frustrating and more than a little annoying when you're constantly being pressured to regress (Hello! College student now!). To say the least, my dad and I don't talk much anymore.

O.K., I'm not saying I believe this or anything, and it might be really dumb, but maybe Michelle hates her dad because he molested her. Look how close they are in Frame Two. That might mean something. Also, he's letting her skip her homework so she can spend time with him. But then, this probably isn't true, because when she was about to have sex with Stan, it seemed like she was a virgin. I dunno.

This strip reminds me of that old SIMPSONS episode where Bart needed to do his homework but Homer kept distracting him with TV movies...

Uhh... I'm going to go out on a limb here and say that likely did not happen. And to use the fact that they're rather close in the second frame is just absolutely ridiculous. THEY'RE FATHER AND CHILD! They're allowed to be close. I seriously hope we haven't degraded to a point where a father can't hug his daughter without someone screaming "RAPE!"

I don't think molestation is an issue here. Possibility, well...yes... But we haven't really been given any clues to denote that her dad molested her. I always assumed that people who were molested as children have a fear of it happening again, so they avoid any situation that might put them in said-situation again. However, a friend of mine also told me that most rape victims are promiscuous because they want to prove to themselves that they don't have to be forced to have sex with someone....

In any case, her dad seems too goofy for that. It seems, to me at least, that he's just more irresponsible than anything else.

I played SORRY! just last night. :)

This strip is tugging at my heartstrings too. My dad and I used to be really close (when I was young) and then, when I was 11, he made me change schools to a horrible school that I hated. I begged and pleaded to go back and he wouldn't let me. That led to a rift in our relationship, and as other people pointed out, when girls hit puberty, fathers and daughters grow even more apart. When I was (present-day) Michelle's age I kinda despised him. Now we have an okay relationship, but it's pretty superficial compared to the one I have with my mom. (I'm twenty-one.)

I really doubt Michelle's dad molested her (also I want to point out that molestation includes a lot more things that just vaginal intercourse) it just looks like they're close. There's nothing inappropriate going on here.

I'd say he didn't *knowingly* molest her. But he fails to realize she doesn't like closeness to him as much as she did in the past completely, and invades her private space. He's making her feel bad out of ignorance, not malice.

The molestation thing is, really, coming out of thin air.

It looks like her father is simply a dreamer, or something of the sort, and their difficulties stem from his financial troubles (as is stated in her bio from the cast page), and from her image of him as irresponsible.

As I mentioned in the other thread, I think that the title is a reference to the girls' fathers.

Word. That knee jerk reaction makes me really uncomfortable, since I've always been close with my Dad, and even though I'm as old as 19, we still hug a lot and I occasionally sit in his lap. Always been a Daddy's girl, which is why I don't appreciate the "they're touching! He's molesting her!" mentality.

I have to agree that it doesn't look like he molested her. She doesn't even look uncomfortable or awkward to be that close to him. It's more like he's being irresponsible and too much of the fun parent.
