Seems Stan may have just realized that even Rich isn't indestructable.

He just looks shocked.

Quick thinking Jack. Always knew he had a good head on his shoulders.

Obligatory: "That's not a knife, THIS is a knife"

Technically, the thread should be "...knife" rather than "knife..."

It occurs to me, upon consideration, that this strip may represent a shortcoming of the medium-- we really didn't learn anything today that we didn't know on Friday, the emotional stakes weren't really changed and there was no intrinsic appeal (humor or otherwise) outside its connection to the larger whole. It was necessary to show, and I am quite at a loss as to how anyone could have written it better-- but it doesn't really DO a lot besides moving time forward a minute or so.

Pacing-wise, this Rich sequence seems to make it more likely that Sara talks to Aggie -- an interlude that breaks the sequence of Aggie/Lisa/Sara followed by Aggie/Lisa followed by Aggie/Sara

I love how for once Jack is the one doing all the talking and Stan has nothing to say.

I disagree, sort of. I think it shows a lot, but that's because I sort of imagine these things in motion. We're seeing that Jack has probably the most brains out of the little male clique here. While Stan is in shock, he's taken charge and called 911. We're seeing that Rich has been hurt severely enough to lose consciousness. Not a good sign in the least.

We're also seeing Stan.. lose his... Stannish-ness...

You know what I mean... The calm, cool, collected Stan is completely at a loss- and it's awesome to see that he's not infallible, just as he's finding Rich to be.

We learned that Jack either (a) doesn't always get loaded at parties or (b) is one of those guys that sobers up on a dime.

This is a good point, but I think it's an interesting look into two characters. Stan, who's usually "taking care" of people(think of him and Michelle in Behind Closed Doors), freezes--Jack's the quick(ish) thinker who calls 911. Everyone else stays back.
Was it ever specifically mentioned that this was a school dance? The complete lack of adults--besides Liz's band--is kind of weird at this point, unless it's some sort of private-ish party.

No, Stan's typical personality disapears after Rich passes out after getting stabbed.

What he said.

Sorry if I'm confusing. The words in my head reorder themselves by the time they hit the keyboard.

It took me a moment to realize that was Jack. I saw the line "do I leave it or..." and thought "worst paramedic ever.'

Heh, true. :)

Is it just me or did Stan get thinner suddenly?

He wants to organize the lynch mob first.

But yeah, this is showing a lot more of the two characters. Nice to see Jack is coming into his own here.
