...wow, I can't believe something I said inspired a sig line. Well don't give me too much credit there, Space Balls is the movie that gave me that.

Quoted For Truth :')

@Dennis I actually wasn't referring to her restraint in not bringing up Aggie's mother :') I was referring to what you interpreted as vapid and entitled. Yeah, it's overdramatized, but I think it's essentially true (at least when one substitutes Penny for Blondes), or at least a half-truth. I actually thought it was funny— stylistically it reminded me of Wilde.

I think we're going to have to agree to disagree. While I think it's fair to say that she was saying it specifically to get on Aggie's nerves, it's still silly and obnoxious.

Plus, Penny's irony is ripe for misinterpretation. After all, Wilde can come off as vapid and self-absorbed if you just read his quotes. :)

(Doesn't QFT also stand for Quite [effing] True?)

Or "Quoted For Truth" You'll also sometimes see QFMFT - Quoted for mother f***ing truth.

Same idea though.

betsynoire wrote:I don't think it's just that Penny's a popular girl. I think some of it has to do with the fact that she so rarely is shown thinking about anything that doesn't directly affect her. Which isn't as bad as hurting other people, and certainly doesn't take away from making the right decisions when she's confronted with them (which she does a decent job at)- it's just not an endearing personality trait.

But with that parting shot, I guess I'm just tired of this coming up every thread. Let's just have a permanent, stickied "Why this character is better than this character" thread. This comic has nothing to do with how maligned Penny is, or how she was once mean/not actually mean to Helen. This thread is long enough already.

Nice idea, actually.

Ooh, and for everyone, thank you for the meaning of QFT!
now I got new abbreviation to remember on, Yay! :D
I was previously thinking like, Quadruple F-ing something...

Maybe her honey roasted infant was too hot and she hurt her mouth? That may be why she is welling up ;)

Also, I agree with the "evil leaking" being the best comment :D

Like her more now, actually. She's 100% right. Aggie is a poser, Aggie did go against her own morals, Aggie was taking a situation that only peripherally had to do with her and making herself the center of it, and Karen does deserve credit for not giving Marshall crap about his running with Aggie up to this point.

I mean, it WAS rude to call like that, and it's never helpful to say that someone will ALWAYS fail, and she's wrong about Aggie being a slut, but other than that, no real problem.

Seriously, was this supposed to be a puppy-kicking moment? I don't feel like I'm being obstinate for continuing to not hate Karen. I just feel like she's sympathetic and she's right now, she's right. Is it me?

I think you're worrying too much about how you're "supposed" to react to the comic, and how your interpretation of the work contrasts with others'. It's perfectly valid to like or feel sympathetic towards Karen even if everyone doesn't care for her. (although some of the vitriol in this thread is getting kind of extreme, what with the open callings for Karen's death and all)

In the spirit of friendly debate, however, I'm not sure how you can like Karen better after this. Everything she said may have been correct, but that doesn't alter the fact that this was a call made for the sole purpose of inflicting as much emotional pain against Aggie as she could. I can understand why she'd feel threatened and the need to lash out against Aggie, but the more mature thing to do would've been to simply rejoice in Marshall's loyalty and devotion and let Aggie stew in her defeat.

This wasn't a shining moment for Karen, even if you don't see it as a negative one.

Karen is stalking Marshall now?

Cellphone tag. Marshall calls Karen and tells her "You were totally right. She just told me a bunch of lies about you and tried to get me to dump you because she was only pretending to be my friend to get into my pants. I've never felt so betrayed. I'll see you later." Karen calls Aggie.

Also, wtf Marshall? As far as I can tell, he called Karen the second he was away from Aggie to spill the beans. This is a little bit bizarre, not because he told Karen, but because he just rushed to do it, probably in the most self-pitying and negative way possible. Maybe I'm picking nits here, but I'd think he'd get done with the run, clean off, then call her up saying, "My run was awful, you were right, can we talk?" Instead he just falls all over himself to tattle right after he got done showing us why he doesn't have any friends other than his scheming bitch girlfriend. They are one weird, dysfunctional couple.

I think that at this precise moment Karen and Marsh are starting to look like Harvey dent and the Joker near the end of "the dark knight" :), anyone agree? Disagree?

No, I was wrong. On second thought it makes perfect sense that Karen was in the car watching. Now knowing that Aggie was interested in Marshall it makes sense for a person like Karen to start spying.

Cyberbard - Nice little bit of speculation/fanfic.

Hmmm . . . ouch. This is definitely painful seeing Aggie like that. This is probably (hopefully) the lowest she'll ever be.

I think Karen's comments hurt so much because they had an element of truth in them. Not a 100% true, apart from the one that Aggie blew here chances with Marshall when she told him she loved him, but still containing an element of truth e.g. Aggie's righteousness can tip over into a pose of self-righteousness. Though I'm not sure if Karen was telling the truth about why she hate's Aggie

I also think it's possible Karen has shot herself in the foot here. I think she's lying about Marshall 'phoning her. I think she's in the car and was discretely following Aggie and Marshall, saw Aggie like this and guessed what had happened and stopped to, metaphorically, kick Aggie while she was down. To be frank I think Aggie would have preferred an actual boot at this point. This also inclines me to believe that Helen went straight to Karen after her grilling by Team Aggie and that Karen was expecting Aggie to try something like this on her next run with Marshall. I think Karen's crying out of relief that Marshall has rejected Aggie and possibly out of shame at what she's doing.

Btw check the background pattern in the frame where we see Karen on the phone and the pattern in the car. Not an exact match and possibly Karen's frame is just a generic background pattern, but . . .
