Gender?

Postby blueaster » Mon Feb 12, 2007 12:40 am

Just wanted a rough gauging of what percentage of the P&A fans here are actually female (which seems to be the target audience of the strip).

I'm a guy, and P&A is very much a guilty pleasure for me (sorry T and Gis, but what can I say? 8) ) anyways...

You don't have to post "i'm a girl" or "i'm a guy". Unless you can make a decently long, interesting post out of it....

by the way, am I the only one who wonders how T can write a comic centered so much on girls and their everyday problems and relationships while not actually being one? Not that there's anything wrong with that... Ghost Story was also done by a guy, and it's an amazing graphic novel.

And where is the [other] for those who are inbetween or simply other for those who are intersexed?

Ah, biology is complicated.

...I'm not intersexed, so I'm female!

I was considering a "choice C.", but i doubt we have a large enough community to have anyone who would seriously need to pick that option.... plus, too many people would either choose it as a joke, or choose it saying "yes please", which would be spamming.

T's stated a couple times now that he grew up with alot of female cousins, hence his reletive ease in writing female characters.

I'm a guy, and as for this strip being a "guilty pleasure"... Eh. I get enough of that sneaking reads at my little sister's Shōjo manga. I respect what you mean about the target audience, but I really think P&A is a little more universally approachable. I don't think there's much to be guilty about.

male

It's a webcomic. It's not like it's an overly icky one, either.

Of course, when I see the girls in this comic, there is a filter in my brain that has a stamp over anything that might be attractive on an underage girl. This stamp doesn't say "censored." It says "jailbait."

While I'm still not old by many standards, I'm too old to be attracted to teenagers. Well, physically, of course. Still, I value self-control over getting my rocks off to teens presented in any fashion.

It's just not my thing.
The point is, there is no guilt. It's just entertainment. Regularly updated entertainment, to be precise.
Oh, and to avoid any unnecessary debate, whether teens are legal or not doesn't concern me, anyway. I'd just rather not get involved.
Hang on, Leetah! And if he tries to bite -- BITE HIM BACK!

I am a male. It never dawned on me that I might be reading material that is mostly read by girls. *shrug* I try not to let "gender" get in the way of my decisions. 8)
PS This is not a spambot.

Possibly a similar if not the same reason how Archie comics can be written/drawn by middle-agers...?

Wait, P&A is written as a girl's comic? ...nah. I think it's just well-written. Honestly, this is one of the few comics I read that I would wholeheartedly recommend for either gender. I feel it has a very balanced approach to gender... sensitive to a feminine mentality, but not reducing the male to a charicature, either.

Except for the fact that, for what I can say, P&A is actually realistic.

I, myself, am a girl. I'm also surprised that so many guys read this comic. But hey, if it's attracting both, then T&G are doing a good job of things, right? ;)

That's how I feel about it, too.
