It's either Clinton or Bush's daughter--I don't recall.

Um...Clinton's.

And, frankly, the fact that you don't know frightens me a bit. (Unless, of course, you're not American...)

Definitely Bill Clinton's daughter.

Why, did some of you out there think it was the name of Richard Nixon's dog??
Which, BTW, it isn't--the dog's name is Checkers.

Particularly since you're using a Stephen Colbert avatar. If you're an American and watching that show, you would be better informed of politics.

If you're not American, though, you're excused, since keeping track of another country's former leader's daughter is unimportant.

I both am American and watch clips of Stephen Colbert on blogs and newswires... Excuse me, but Clinton's presidency was a long long time ago...

*jawdrop, gape*He was THE LAST PRESIDENT. It was only SIX YEARS ago! He was president for 8 years!

...Sorry. *facepalm*I suppose you could be thirteen or something, which would make six years a "long time"...but to me, Clinton was THE president, because that's what I knew growing up. Besides, on that note, would you not say that the events of 9-11-2001 happened "A long, long time ago"? That only happened a year after Clinton stepped down.

Sigh...this is what Stephen Colbert has done. It's a dumbed-down version of the Daily Show. "Things a fourth-grader would find funny."

Guys... relax! It is only Clinton's daughter, it's not like she is really important in the grand scheme of things. I don't think not remembering whether she is his or Bush's daughter makes someone stupid. And it could definitely be said that politically speaking, Clinton's presidency was a long time ago - the American political situation (indeed, the whole world landscape) has certainly changed a great deal since then.

Actually, in Australia, people have a hard time remembering even the name of our Governor General (it's Michael Jeffery), let alone the names of our Prime Minister's children.

(Must say though, after looking at these responses I'm kinda chuffed that I remembered the name of Clinton's daughter. I know way too much useless information.)

Part of it has to do with the fact that Chelsea tended to be in the limelight a lot--mainly due to some extremely cruel comments directed at her by right-wing radio talk-show hosts (she was a very gangly and awkward adolescent at the time of her father's first election), coupled with the Clinton's spin-doctors constantly wanting to 'soften' Hillary's image by reminding everyone that she gave birth once upon a time.

And the 90s were when American politics made sense....

TCR is a genre of its own, I wouldn't call it dumb, since the satire there is actually quite clever in my opinion.

Although I would say that TDS viewers probably are more informed than TCR viewers.

Also Stephen Colbert's Stephen Colbert character annoys me. I just can't watch TCR because he annoys me too much. I personally don't find it funny.

(Also, I can't name our President's kids, altough I can name her cats... that's just wrong, I know, but her cats have had more publicity than her children have D: )

I don't believe knowing the name of a president's child is particularly important, although I don't know how anyone who's lived in America for the past decade could forget. The right deserves scorn for having tried to portray her as neglected and depressed, but her parents should also be condemned for trotting her out whenever they needed to prove they were still a happy family.

That being said, it really isn't pressing knowledge. http://www.rethinkingschools.org/just_fun/games/mapgame.html is a lot more important. I missed five, I'm ashamed to say, but I'm at school and haven't read a newspaper in months. Then again, if this quiz was entitled "Name All The Presidents' Children", I think most of us would get no more than one or two.

Continuing on this divergent vein of conversation:

Any speculation as to why Stephen Colbert would ever want his own show after debuting on The Daily Show? What, Jon Stewart not satirical, funny or dumbed-down enough??

[Oh yeah, maybe so he can better make fun of Canadians--re: his support for Michigan and snub of Oshawa!] :?

I'm a little more disturbed about the difference between Chelsea and the Bush girls.

I mean, Bush is still in office and while they haven't done anything recently, the twins got almost constant publicity in the first years for their extensive and irresponsible partying.

If you live in America and pay attention to anything, not just news, you should know the Bush twins.

But yeah. Chelsea played a big part in the Lewinsky scandal as well, since as Susanna said she was pulled out anytime somebody questioned the Clinton's togetherness. Got kind of annoying indeed. And I was 13.

PS--I STUNK at that map!

Dear God. I mixed up Niger, Mali (how the...?), and Mauritania; completely missed the 'stans except for Uzbekistan, Afghanistan, and Pakistan; marked Bahrain as Qatar (it doesn't help that Qatar seems to be an island); and forgot completely where Bahrain was until filling in all the other countries. That site is biased (I don't like how they say Palestine is "currently" the Palestinian Authority), and they seem to have significantly misdrawn Qatar (an island?) and Turkey (Thrace?), but it's still quite sobering. Thank you for putting this in perspective.
