I would imagine that Ronnie has been made fun of, and made to feel undeserving and inadequate, for so long, that "talking it out" isn't an option he's even aware he really has. Or that anyone would honestly want to discuss it with him. Sometimes a person can be so beaten down by life that they forget that they deserve a shot at happiness, too. Ronnie is reminding me just a bit (okay, a good bit) of someone I knew during high school, had he not had friends who didn't believe he deserved to be treated as anything less than a person.

Really, let's face it - American society isn't particularly kind to those who are "less than conventionally attractive." Individuals can be kind, but as a collective whole, we can be real bastards. =\

Also, I don't think Jade has been using him, per se, but I would be very surprised if he's not feeling that way, going by his reaction here. "Bloody messenger boy now, am I? Well, at least someone has a use for me." Or something along those lines.

Basically - I really have to wonder if Ronnie is a pre-op MtF, and that's part of where that personal feeling of "ugly" is coming from. Like "that... thing in the mirror is not who I am supposed to be." (personal bet: Ronnie falls into the "T" part of Quiltbag) Then combine that with the bad treatment that's already happened to Ronnie, based on looks, weight, and likely being an escapist, like Nobody and CEO have theorized, and man - this poor person has got some major issues. =\

I was actually thinking something along those lines- the insistence on being called 'Ronnie', a more feminine name, rather than Ron, definitely points in that direction. But since this is the U chapter, it's possible he (or she, if that's what this turns out to be) hasn't even realized it- there's just an unexplainable feeling of not-quite-right that makes everything feel off-kilter.

I'm on the opposite end - my first name is a VERY common name for girls, with a VERY common nickname for it. As far as I know, neither one have any unpleasant associations, but I don't particularly like being called by the nickname (and there's nothing wrong with it, it just never fit me) by anyone other than my grandfather.

Well, no. It's likely that in Jade's POV, she asked him (in what is objectively a pretty straightforward way, if a somewhat awkward one) to do her a quick, entirely reasonable favor without, for example, asking him to lie for her about where the note came from or the like. Using him would be more like if she buttered him up until he agreed to give Lisa the note and some kind of falsehood about where it came from.

*facepalm* And more proof of this being a not-good day for me - I totally missed and forgot that (Val's earlier post). It just kind of seemed logical to me, since this is a comic about non-heteronormative sexualities. >.>;;

Also, silly peoples, everyone knows Michael will be the "token straight"*, that's why he gets so few lines. Only so much screentime such a character should get in this comic, after all.

*Barring whatever plans for him T has beyond the occasional "hey, it's that guy" cameo, of course.

Well, no. She also said 'when you get a chance', so she isn't even asking him to put himself out or anything- she's making the (completely justified, since they all live in the same building) assumption that he'll see Lisa in the near future- for all we know, getting others to deliver the message is just part of the game, and Ronnie isn't even the first one they've asked.

I am *very* late to the thread, so a lot has already been said, but I'm just going to throw in with the people who suspect they will relate to Ronnie. It's so screwy, and, as one person already said, a bit bizarrely narcissistic, but I know what everyone means about thinking that people are laughing at you, deliberately excluding you, maybe playing mind games with you. And you see things, and they're real, but nobody else gets what you're going through. At the same time, I get why people might not like Ronnie, because he'll have a hard time relating to other people.

Yeah, it sounds like this character may be a few of us on here...
