Freemage wrote:*Twitch* The word "chiropractor" sets all sorts of alarm-bells off in my head. There's basically two broad categories:

Category 1 are essentially really good massage therapists. This category is fine, if perhaps a bit overpriced for what they do. Still, a decent massage therapist can help alleviate back pain, and will also offer the 'soft touch' element of medical practice (ie, getting to know you and actually treating you as a person as well as a patient) that can be hard to get in traditional medicine.

Category 2 are quacks of the first order, who will tell you that chiropractic methods alone will cure cancer, AIDS and all sorts of other problems that their discipline couldn't hope to touch. If every last one of these charlatans were to die of painful stage 4 cancer tomorrow, I wouldn't shed a single tear for any of them.

A few hints that your chiropractor may be in Category 2:

1: He talks about "energy flows" (or worse, 'chi') as if they were a thing.
2: She has articles talking about the founder of chiropractic medicine on the wall, and speaks about him in laudatory terms.
3: The term "innate intelligence" comes up, ever.

One trick: Ask if chiropractic treatment has any risks or potential side-effects. If they say, "No," run, don't walk, for the door. If anyone attempts to stop you, curse at them loud and long until they let you pass, and tell them to shove any bill for the initial consultation up their backside until they can taste it.

Any treatment that is remotely medically effective runs the risk of having a negative effect. An honest practitioner will tell you that. The only way for a medical treatment to have no possible side-effects is for it to have no effects at all. (See also: Homeopathy.) In fact, asking the chiropractor about homeopathy and "the risks of vaccination" are also good tests. If the chiropractor dismisses homeopathy as quackery, and tells you the risks of vaccination are real but vastly overblown for the non-allergic, then they're on the road to being a trustworthy source. If, OTOH, they seem to find homeopathy acceptable, or talk about a vaccination/autism link, then make sure you spit on them as you leave.

My chiropractor is one of the first kind, and yes, he can also resettle the bones. When I first went to him, we went over the entire run of possible side effects. Then again, in order to get licensed here, he had to go through a lot. He does very good work, over all.

I am getting so frustrated these days. There are times I feel like I don't understand English at all, and when I don't understand, I don't retain, and I end up getting in trouble. My advisor told me to revise my first critical paper- which I did. I corrected everything that was wrong. It turns out she wanted what I think of as a rewrite- which is that I go through and rewrite everything that I think is wrong. This happens all the time, but I'm so scared of telling anyone while I'm right there. I don't know if you all have noticed that I tend to overdo my writing and explain things repeatedly- it's because I don't know if I'm saying things right for everyone else.

I keep thinking that I have something incredibly wrong with me.

Other than that, I really wish I had Giada DeLaurentis' body. . .or at least I wish my breasts were like hers.

Artemisia, everyone feels like that sometimes. Not about Giadia DeLaurentis, the other thing.

I know, but it seems to happen all the time for me. I feel incredibly stupid whenever this happens.

Every time I think my mom is making progress, she goes and says things like "that's what's wrong with Muslims" and "I'm tired of being the man in this relationship" and (after I've spent twenty minutes talking about how awesome my best friend is, only to mention for context of something that she's got a minor disability) "oh, she's disabled? *pity face that implies she's going to place every awesome trait I've just referred to secondary in her mind*". *sigh*

Also, Artemisia, I do that too. It's why I try to avoid conversations where I can't revert to being silly and using capslock sometimes.

I'm just frustrated with this. It's like every time someone says certain things, I can't understand what they're saying. I'm not even sure if what they're saying is important. I've had to ask people for clarification on so many things over the years too. I get press releases, and I can't understand what they're saying because the words seem structured wrong.

I feel the same way about my writing, Artemisia. I had to go through that crap in law school which was just awful. Trust me when I say legal writing is some of the worst writing out there. It made no sense why they wanted me to write that way. Probably why I'm not a lawyer. And I totally get the Giada thing, too.

So...I've been on social assistance for a month, or so, at this point. So, I called them about a medical thing they wanted me to do, for the possibility of getting on disability - I wasn't able to get an appointment until after it was due, so I needed to get the time moved up.

Well, when I called I found out my account had been suspended because I hadn't been turning in income statements...which I wasn't supposed to be doing, as I'd filled out a template version when I signed up, and that was supposed to stay on file so I didn't have to fill out identical statements every month.

But they'd forgot to put it on my file. So...augh.

Got it cleared up pretty quickly, but it's still annoying that I had to do so.
Can you hear me boy? Your devil is here!

Is it possible that it's a vitamin deficiency of some kind? Do you take multivitamins?

You get migraines, Bubbles? :/ Got any aspirin or anything?

Valerie:
I don't take multivitamins but I'm not quite sure that's what it is. I think it's either how I'm sleeping or my seasonal/stress headaches are kicking my butt.
