Much better than it was at its nadir. It will never be quite as good as when she was a young'un, not because Michelle holds a grudge, but because Dad is just more emotionally equipped to relate to young children. But they work at it.

Is that the reason her relationship with her father fell apart (because he didn't know how to relate to her as a teenager), or was it due to his failed publishing venture, or a little of each?

Also, going through previous Quiltbag strips, I notice that you mentioned that more contest winners would appear in weeks to come. Have they appeared yet, or are they still coming up?

The remaining contest winners are slated to appear near the beginning of the next chapter, which won't be long now.

And a little of each, for sure.

Since there isn't a thread for it over in the corresponding forum, and I recently finished the Guilded Age archives:

T, was Byron inspired by Record of Lodoss War in any way? He greatly reminds me of the Orson character from that anime (also, Berserkers in the Forceria world "work" the same way as Byron apparently does. Possession by a spirit of madness.)

I watched Lodoss what seems like a billion years ago, so... possibly? I think his principal inspirations were (1) the fighter class, (2) Bob the Builder, (3) real-life struggles with anger for me and possibly Phil, and (4) the watered-down definition of "berserker" in some fantasy games, and the actual truth of it. Phil wrote Byron's first scene, so I may not know everything here. (I picked his name sort of after the fact-- it was at once a "heroic" name as in "Byronic hero" and yet also a kind of quiet, intellectual name which seemed to suit him.)

This is not even a question, so I think I'm misusing my semi-annual de-lurk. However:

The most recent P&A Plus update reminded me that of all the characters, I miss Jack the most. If he was the gay male character of the comic but kept all other personality traits, I'd think he was based on my life in high school and early college.

Which makes me think of two questions, actually:
1) My favorite pages in P&A were usually focused on the supporting characters; avoiding spoilers, are there future chapters of QUILTBAG planned from the point of view of other characters?
2) If you're going to annotate it, have you considered whether current P&A Plus subscribers be shifted over to the new comic, or if it will be a separate subscription? Especially if we all agree to mention it in the forums as often as possible? (Best $2.99 ever, btw.)

1) The chapter which started today isn't quite going to be exclusively about other characters, but there's to be less focus on Sara and Lisa than in "Q."
2) Any QUILTBAG annotations will be treated as part of P&A Plus.

Do the Fans versions of the core P&A cast have the same sexual orientations as their P&Averse counterparts? (I mean, apart from Sara and Fred, whom the "Fan Glam No. 21" story makes clear are gay, and Penny, who appears to be basically straight, since she wishes she were a lesbian so she could be cool and confident like Sara.)

There's not much variation. The "lesbian chic" of the campus does promote more experimentation than in Penny and Aggie's world, and possibly results in some earlier self-discoveries... as well as a few people lying to themselves by overstating how bi or gay they are. Stan strikes me as the most likely to declare himself "heteroflexible," but he still wouldn't go after either Rich or Jack:those relationships need to stay free of that kind of complication.

I realized earlier today that Penny, which is a unit of currency, dated Rich, which means someone who has a lot of money. Was this supposed to imply that Penny was just another girl to Rich?

Yes, I'm a little show on the uptake, and no, I don't know why these things pop into my head while I'm laying plywood for the kitchen floor.

It was irony-- Penny was a rich girl and Rich was saving every penny.

Updated now. My schedule's always crazy but this week has been extra exhausting. I'm gonna have to push some things around, going forward.
