Nosering Dude does actually seem adorably vulnerable in the last panel. So despite my cheering for Jade due to my bias, I think he deserves a fair shot.

Hmm...maybe this could go the Mà3 route: Dating/Sex Contest!

I forgot to mention it earlier... it is a bit weird that the "like dude" feels the need to specify the meaning of the word "like" he's using. Yes, it's ambiguous in writing, but in actual speech, the word "like" used in these two ways would be stressed differently (if it's a verb, the word receives slight stress, if it's "like you" as in "similar to you", then the word "you" is the one stressed).

...oh well. I'll assume he just stumbled over his own words and stressed words in an unusual manner. Like, stressed both "like" and "you", which is a bit awkward, but not too strange.

Looking at this again, I'm thinking that since Lisa is, despite her brash entrance in the previous strip, probably still feeling somewhat unsure of herself, she may find Nosering Dude's nervousness and awkwardness more appealing right now than Jade's super-confident directness. It's of course far too early to tell whether she's interested, but her slide from embarassment back into easy, friendly snark suggests his vulnerability makes her, on some level of awaerness, at ease around him.

But if she is finding him appealing, why would she be directing him to linguistics? Because, last I checked, she did not particularly like Fiona. Hum, I wonder if she has greater antipathy towards her than we've realised and is subtly telling Hawk to go to hell :P

I don't think so. It's true that her initial reaction to Fiona wasn't a positive one, presumably because she saw her as a bimbo enabling Sara's skirt-chasing tendencies she'd just been cautioning Sara about. But already in this strip, she seems to have warmed up to her, casually calling her "Fi" (as she tends to short-form people she knows generally, so it's not meant as a slight) and both helpfully and cheerfully explaining the "point" of the International Phonetic Alphabet.

And even if Lisa hadn't changed her initial impression of Fiona, it couldn't be clearer, from her psychedelic flights of fancy over it, that she's fallen for Linguistics at first sight.

Even if she doesn't like Fiona, that doesn't mean she has to dislike the entire subject. I dislike this one guy in my Am-Lit class (sooooo pretentious you do not dismiss an entire genre on the grounds of it being formulaic ffffffff), but that doesn't mean I dislike the entire subject. It seemed to me more like she was directing him to a subject that he might be interested in, since he was specifying which use of a word he means. I have a friend who occasionally does that (since OL it can be hard to transfer), and linguistics is her favorite subject.

Nosering is nervous, and Lisa is gently teasing him about it. It's mating behaviour, like when a male bird displays his plumage and the female acts coy.

Naaa, she practically had a nerdgasm during the class, if anything, she thinks the class would be more enjoyable with him there.

Or he's teasing him about his clumsiness when talking.
Keep smiling! It makes people wonder what you've been up to :D

You know what, I'll just leave the jokes to people who are actually funny.
Plus, I had forgot how much Lisa enjoyed the linguistics herself.

Both. And she may be seeing if there's a common interest.
Maybe study dates ..... yeah.

That can be read as... surprisingly snarky, coming from you.

Otherwise that doesn't seem your style at all, so I assume you didn't actually mean it that way.
