Could just be me, but it almost looks like Fiona has recognized someone and suggested to Sara that both couples hang out together at Sara's place.
Which combined with the question mark over Sara's head could mean that Sara has just seen something that she's not grokking.

And putting all of this together, I'd say that the spotted "couple" are Lisa and Hank.

Touch-comfort can be more about how one was raised, too, familial culture not just regional. Standoffish parents vs. UU, say. (Pretty much all the people I've met raised UU seems very comfortable with themselves and others. I envy their sex ed program or whatever.)

What's UU? This?

Or this?

If this turns into the hetero-uncomfortable scene it's looking like then it will confirm all my regional profiling suspicions of Fiona. Those big bodacious Midwestern Beauty Queen teeth just suggest a certain mindset to me that goes along with them.

Fiona might be from, say, the south, where of course the idea of holding hands with a girl is no big (very hetero-normative)

I'm from the South, and my family is very standoffish. Repressive religious background certainly helps with that sort of upbringing.

Nice ta meet'cha. :D Kentucky/Indiana here, so not south-south, but y'know. How about you?

Originally I'm from Alabama, lately Texas by way of Louisiana, Arizona, Washington, and California. Nice to meet you as well.

I would.

Besides, these two are about 3 days removed from being high-schoolers.

I love the red-pen'd thoughts to illustrate Sara's internal processing, incidentally.

Fiona inviting Sara on a double date means that either she assumes Sara is attached (to Lisa!) or that she intends to set poor Sara up. Deary me.

Yup, that.

There is an UU in your harem, by the way ;) . I wish I had been raised UU rather than having joined a few years ago. Of course being raised UU in the Netherlands is extremely unlikely.

Am I the only person who got the impression Fiona did get the message, and is simply having fun messing with Sara's head?

I don't think we have enough evidence to say Fiona's the "messing with people's heads" type. She seems fairly...Michelle-like to me.

The thought crossed my mind, but I've yet to see Fiona do anything intentionally malicious, so I'm giving her the benefit of the doubt :).

Maybe Fiona's straight, but knows a nice girl Sara might like.

Yeah, probably not.

Yeah, probably not.

Possible, but unlikely. Because laws of drama. We readers are here looking to be entertained, and Sara misreading Fiona and subsequently suffering from broken heart and libido aroused for nothing would probably entertain us more. This assuming the previous sentence makes any sense.

As for the discussion about girls touching...

Yep, me neither. All kinds of platonic touching is going on between girls where I go to school. I guess, since I am not experienced in the ways of American School System (capitalized because, you know, ASS  Sorry.), it is somewhat equivalent to college. And, since my medication-induced rant has not been going on long enough yet, I wish to explain I tend to notice these kinds of public displays of affection since I am slightly adverse to them, myself. Don't get me wrong, there is nothing wrong with, say, publicly hugging a friend, as long as said friend is not me. Sorry for not making much sense.

Well the way Fiona says it, seems to me like she has assumed that Lisa and Sara are a couple and that there is some other person that makes Fiona in a couple.

I don't think Fiona thinks Sara and Lisa are a (potential) couple, even if she doesn't think going to see a teen romance comedy with Sara but without Sara's (possible future) girlfriend is a bad idea... Sara just told her that she's available (too).

But, I do think the other two in the double date equation are supposed to be men, and Fiona doesn't intend to date Sara. OR Fiona wants to date Lisa while Sara dates a friend of Fiona, that's possible too. But then she would have suggested that Lisa should go out with them this time...
