I'm confudazzled, Is Fiona asking that each of them bring a date to make a double date, or that they should find another couple to get a double date?

Then again, it could be a nice way to say "sorry, I'm taken"
Keep smiling! It makes people wonder what you've been up to :D

You call grabbing someone's hand and then suggesting they double date "straight-up and direct"?

I know American women tend to be a lot more touchy-feely and physically comfortable with each other than American men, especially when it comes to holding rather than punching or back-slapping. I don't know if that extends to holding hands while walking; could that plausibly (i.e. with at least moderate probability vs. freak idiosyncracy) be a pure friendly thing in Fiona's mind?

Ehh, it depends. Close female friends normally don't give hand-holding, hugs, etc. a second thought. Even slightly less close ones will be huggy and cuddly. I've hugged, cuddled, and held hands with a nice chunk of my female friends (some that knew I was open to ladies, some that didn't), and you'll pretty rarely get a bad reaction.

As for Fiona, she and Sara have kind of barely met (from what we can tell), but the hand-holding could be a courtesy (Sara did hold her hand out for her, after all) or for guidance (if she doesn't know where Sara's dorm room is-- note that Sara is leading in the last panel). There's also a little bit of a mix of cultures, since this is college and we can assume Fiona and Sara aren't from the same part of the country. Fiona might be from, say, the south, where of course the idea of holding hands with a girl is no big (very hetero-normative) and... well, we still have no clue where Sara's from, but it could be a place where people just don't touch each other that much.

Not at all. In fact, where is this question coming from? I'm talking about Sara with her whole "playing it indirectly" approach.

Sara's from the east coast somewhere, I thought we knew. P&A in eastern US.

Touch-comfort can be more about how one was raised, too, familial culture not just regional. Standoffish parents vs. UU, say. (Pretty much all the people I've met raised UU seems very comfortable with themselves and others. I envy their sex ed program or whatever.)

wait…what? wrote:There is still a possibility that the double date is referring to her and Sara going on double date with two other people. I wouldn't rule that out.

I'd assumed that this was what Fiona was referring to- that Fiona hasn't worked out that Sara is gay, and is suggesting that they each date a guy.

Yeah, I thought that Fiona was maybe confirming them as a relationship, like "Hey, this was a fun date, maybe we can date with another couple too." Sara seems more confused than disappointed in listening to Fiona.

Oh, and, yeah, I guess it's sad that she's probably not getting any from Fiona tonight. I'm more concerned about the other thing.

Jeez, I really hope Fiona doesn't turn out to be homophobic. I could see Sara showing up for their double date with a girl, and then Fiona either goes heterosexual-crusader-rage or (much better) feels stupid and embarrassed for making the assumption that Sara is straight. God, I hope it's the second one. The first one would be much more interesting, though, admittedly.

It's easy to take for granted that heterosexuals don't have as many problems when it comes to flirting. Rejection hurts, but gay people face that and the fear that the object of their affection will take it the wrong way. I had that happen to me once and he was embarrassed afterwards, but I was cool about it since it was an easy enough mistake to make.

Hmmmm....

Nine months since 'first base'? But yet...it's been more than a year since she broke up with Daphne, hasn't it?

Yup. Which does raise some interesting possibilities about her senior year, right around winter break....

Something around 14 months, yeah.

I'm wondering who the gal was, and if she had anything to do with the decision to check the hormones.

I do remember this, from T's answer to my question about who ended up going to senior prom:

TCampbell wrote:Stan, Sara and Brandi found dates too, whom they took a bit more seriously as prospects for at least a little while.

(Side note: No, Stan's date wasn't Lisa, because T says in the same post that she, Aggie, Fred and Daphne had their own "counterprom" at Fred's place that night.)

What's UU? This?

But yeah, should take family background into account, too. I always got the feeling that Sara's family was less affectionate than some. I have no idea what I'm basing that on, though.
