I've always wanted to know how the rest of
this conversation went.
Did Sarah keep defending Penny? Did she apologize to Helen? Or did they just left the conversation as it was since it had turned ackward? Because I'm curious about Helen's feelings about Sarah. It's obvious she hated/resented Penny the most, but how did she feel about Sarah and Shelly? Did she feel guilty about the damage she was helping cause? I don't think she knew the extent of Shelly's troubles, but surely she did hear about the rape video. What was her reaction to that? Did she believe it or did she think it was just Charlotte acting on her own?
Just curious, and I apologize if this has been asked before

They changed the subject. Helen had made her point, and there was no need to beat it into the ground, but Sara was startled enough by Helen's feelings on the matter that she didn't feel like arguing. Helen was making her claims about Penny's whole clique, including Sara, so it wasn't as simple as defending a friend. That's always easier to do than defending yourself.
Helen, like she said, was willing to cut Sara a break by saying she might've changed, but still held Sara's previous behavior in contempt. Penny and Shelly hadn't diverged from that behavior as far as she could see, so there you go.
By the time the rape video rolled around, Helen was in full rationalization mode. She'd always at least suspected that what Karen was having her do was wrong, and it was getting harder and harder to deny it. But Karen's cabal was still making her feel respected, valued, and she told herself whatever lies she needed to in order to keep that up. That is, until Aggie called her out, and then she just crumbled.
