What else in the Webmasters culture?

Postby sun tzu » Thu Nov 15, 2012 7:29 am

Just trying to imagine what else one could find in an America so completely redefined by Spider-Man.

Calling it now: Spider-Man plays a role in Chick Tracts. The question is, what role? Does Jack Chick go for the most controversial approach, depicting Spidey as the tool of the devil, much like he does with all aspects of pop-culture in our world? Does he have a tract where Spidey finds Jesus himself? Or, going more with the flow, does he write comics where Spidey saves not only people's lives, but also their souls by telling them about Chick's version of Christianity?

And Chick Tracts are just one part of the equation: You can bet that in this world, every religious, political or social cause with more than a handful of supporters has had some Spider-Man comics advocating it. Comics where Spider-Man leads the Ku Klux Klan, comics where he champions civil rights, comics where he fights for clean energy, comics where he campaigns for a given presidential candidate...

And you just know that in a world this Spider-Man-obsessed, Spidey would start showing up in all sorts of stories that have nothing to do with Spider-Man. One in every eight disaster movies, and one in every five horror movies, have Spider-Man showing up at the very end as the cavalry, as the most commonly-used deus ex machina.

The girl in The Crying Game is actually Spider-Man. :)
