No Aggie. You were the poster child for the b.s. "I ain't like other girls. I don't like make up and therefore have a brain!". Penny had different interests and plans for her future.

The tools being the focus for the final scene was a great artistic choice, especially as they move from "more or less harmless" to "potential murder weapons" to "easily employed as torture implements."
