And Stan needs to shut the fuck up for life. Dude hates her for VERY stupid reasons. Gog he's such an overgrown baby.

Poor preteen Helen. Didn't seem to understand that, especially for kids and teenagers, it's quite common to discover you like someone whom you'd disliked, even hated, just a short time before. And as we see from this Something Positive comic, even as a teenager she still didn't get how that works.

I'll say this much for her, though: in calling Penny Aggie's "darling," she was more prescient about those two than she realized. (Note the strip's date: this would've been in the winter of junior year, when P & A were close friends but not yet dating.)

His friend is lying in a hospital bed, clinging to life. He's scared, he's angry. And right now he's lashing out. Ease up.

Explain the other times he treats her like shit.

The easy answer there is "Ok, those other times he's being a dick" but I don't think that's it.

I have had male friends that have dated women that, for whatever reason, I haven't gotten along with. I've tried to put up a friendly front when they're around, sometimes it's worked, sometimes I've spoken my mind. I think Stan, normally a smooth talker, has decided he's not going to bother with the friendly front. Is it rational? No. But there it is.

All I got.

He's a sleazy dick who acts like an immature sexist creep. And has barely any redeeming qualities.

He's a high school teenager. He's not "acting", he IS immature.

Dude that's a weak reason. I've been around high schoolers way more mature than him.

And I've been around teens that make him look like Neil DeGrasse Tyson. Truth be told, "immature" was the only word in that first sentence I'd disagree with. (OK, maybe "sexist" as well. Enjoying getting laid =/= sexist.) Stan's a used car salesman, he knows what to say to get what he wants. Being that guy costs him later in the comic, but right now, like I said, he's angrily lashing out at Penny because he can't angrily lash out at the guy who stabbed his friend.

Funny how I mentioned nothing about enjoying sex. At all.

The same as everyone else, he just knows exactly how to manipulate teenaged girls. It just seems more obvious as there aren't really any plot relevant men. They're all mostly secondary characters who serve largely as relationship drama and then hang around once that's done.

What Karen and Sara are about to do is pretty mercenary of them. Both of them should know better than to attempt to use others as a means to an end, and though we don't expect that much from Karen, Sara could've at least asked Marshall if he'd've been up for that kiss of self-discovery thing.
