And there's the Penny we all know and detest.

(Excuse my mood, John Cena won the Royal Rumble and I am BITTER about it.)
I'm Charlie Owens, good night, and good luck.

Ah, the Loneliest Whale. Arguably the oddest P&A strip of all, as it has nothing to do with anything about the characters or their stories, before or after it, except maybe Aggie's concern for endangered species. Although maybe if the comic had ended up syndicated after all, there would've been more like it. It is pretty funny (especially Nick's last line).

According to Wikipedia, No Scrubs was released in January 1999. It's had time to achieve hypothetical retro coolness circa 2009 and then become passé again.

Time is difficult to estimate considering one year took about 3 to pass in their universe. This particular strip was from 2005 when that song was 6 years old. Makes me wonder what would play if this strip took place today.

There's so much that reminds us that this was once a strip designed for syndication in newspapers. The singing whale is one, but the gag with playing embarrassing popular to force people to leave is rather cartoonish. And yet there is some interesting details first established here that will play out later like Michelle's weight and father issues.

AHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA big lipped alligator moment much? And I love the gag about playing old music. (I remember when that song was popular. EVERYONE EVER was just singing it constantly and it's like, dude, guys, seriously, it's a slightly catchy song but it's not that big a deal.)

Unelegant harem pants were in fashion over here for a while, until about a year ago I think. I liked to call them HAMMER pants.

Dude, spoilers! I was planning to watch the RR next Saturday with friends, I had cut everything wrestling-related out of my routine for this week, and still the first thing I see on Monday morning is the Rumble winner.

On topic, strip 20 kinda hits home. Not only me, but many people I know only show passing interest to any issue, and when the moment passes, they go back to their (our?) privileged lives.
Also, nice to see Penny always carries a piece of Aggie with her.

That's right. Already at this early point in their relationship, long before they could plausibly be said to have any romantic interest in, or even friendly admiration for each other, Penny finds herself considering what Aggie would think.

And the Good Ship Agenny has been born since time immemorial...

Also, good to see seeds of Michelle-Penny stealth animosity. I didn't realize it's present this early. Kudos for T. O_O
