No, no. He could also be religious, or have a medical condition.

More seriously -- considering the first time he went up to her room, he seemed to be hoping for sexytimes, it seems to be some or failure of character (or communication) that is causing him to not pursue it now.

He's a freshman in collage. He was expecting what EVERY collage freshmen expects when they get to an "Away" Collage.

Cheap, meaningless sex.

She wasn't a *person* the first time they met. She was "that kinda hot gothy girl with the nice lips who wants me to go to her room... Hell yeah sexy times! PORKY"S WAS TRUE!!"

Then he saw the bottles, and she stopped being a fantasy, and became a person again. Her not wanting to throw him on the bed and ride him like the teacups at d1sneyland also played a part, but I"m giving him the benefit of the doubt here in saying it was the concern over her possible drinking problem that slammed the brakes on his daffy duck.

He became concerned for her well being, he grew invested. And once you start to actually CARE, it's harder to just hop into bed with someone for meaningless sex. Now, barring the plethora of possible preferences he could have, he would now want the sex to MEAN something. Emotional investment *could* cause performance anxiety, hell he could have shut off the part of his brain that thought of her as a sexual being and Friend zoned her, until the "Lets fuck!" glance, which short circuited his brain.

Gonna repost this, since no one's seemed to answer it.

Even if he is asexual(and him quoting a song lyric in his first appearance doesn't exactly mean that), would a good night kiss on the cheek have killed him?

Why, yes, actually. You see, Marie quietly rubbed iocaine powder on her cheek when he wasn't looking. She's spent the last few years building up an immunity to it.

Maybe he wasn't comfortable kissing her.

Are smooches really something one does with "Just met like three days ago at most" friends? That just seems like a massive space invasion and a little "My other car is a nondescript white van" to me. He's also a classic introvert when it comes to social interactions. psychical intimacy isn't really an introvert's forte.

He's undecided, never been in this situation before, not sexually active (remember the quote from "Chess") and playing it by ear. Not every male is a slave to their prick, even in their first year at college.

I didn't get the impression that the Chess quote was an announcement of chastity so much as a way to reinforce his superiority as someone who neither smokes nor drinks. (Somewhat nonsensical as, among other things, no one mentioned alcohol or cigarettes/drugs, but...)

On the other hand, I suppose it's entirely possible that someone who is that eager to announce his purity (for lack of a better word) on one level is happy to declare it on another. Admittedly, I think the statement overall made me think of the sort of person who badly wants you to know that they don't watch TV (compared to someone who... just doesn't watch much TV) rather than someone who is electing for celibacy at the moment.

"I get my kicks above the waistline, sunshine" is a line from "One Night in Bangkok"", where Murray Head as chess grandmaster Freddie Trumper is rejecting "Tea, girls, warm, sweet, Some are set up in the Somerset Maugham suite" for the pleasures of watching and commenting on a chess shampionship.

So Michael is declaring himself an intellectual rather than a hedonist.

Looks like Marie is taking him up on it.

I wonder if he'd have found a chessboard set up in Marie's room if he'd followed her through the door? The invitation to come in was certainly there.

Yeah, Trumper's comments throughout the song pretty much translate to "MORE BETTER THAN U"; I just think, in the context of Michael's introduction, that it's hard to definitely say that Michael meant that he's better than his peers because he doesn't plan to drink/smoke (which would make sense in the context of the rest of his statement) or that he's better than his peers in terms of his sex life or lack thereof (which would make a certain amount of sense in the context of several of the others talking about their sexuality, especially if he missed that his peers don't necessarily sleep with anyone they're attracted to).

To be honest, I think it's at least partly because he's a bit shy, perhaps not very good with people (only child?), and a bit scared, which would make his putting up an intellectual front into a defensive measure. Reminds me a bit of me at his age.

I like Marie. She obviously likes Michael, but is making him work hard at understanding her, and so finding out more about him too. If she's studying Engineering (and I was a bit younger and less attached) I'd be making sure Michael had some competition.

I was an only child (with a single mother in the military, so lots of babysitters and not a ton of social interaction, especially once I got a little too old for them), and not very good with others. Whether Michael there is, I couldn't say, really. But it wouldn't at all surprise me to find that Lisa wasn't the only one having to put up a brave front. (I'm thinking "Sara" in this category too, after what she'd already been through that day.)

As for the quote from the Head song, well... I just ended up including it in my blurb I gave to T (probably because it's on my iPod, and I'm pretty sure I had heard it earlier that day), and for a quick, simple "read" of my/Michael's (initial, anyway) personality, there's some real truth to "getting my kicks above the waistline". I had no idea T was going to end up running with it in the character's introduction of himself.

It's kind of exciting, and incredibly curious as to see where they will take the characters. I don't know if I actually commented on it, but I REALLY liked that T wrote Jade as studious/serious about her course load as I actually was in college; it made me really happy to see that, and makes me even more curious about what other similarities might be AND where the character may stray from who I was. (And I hope that every other trick-or-reader has a similar experience, because this is TOTES cool.)

It's less living vicariously/self obsession, and more quirky interest.

I actually agree with Lilithanat, but I know I'll be excited if/when Val pops up again.
I can't even explain how excited I was to see that T picked me for one of the character ideas. XD

I bet she's like a really good singer and has an awesome family and is an only child and her last name is Tall.
Because I do live vicariously through my character. :P
