Revised theory: Obviously, "when they meet" was a bit simplistic (and honestly, I wasn't sure how in-depth this flashback storyline would be), but I still think the scene will turn to colour when Iseul's relationship with Elizabeth changes.

Ugh, I know, right? "Oh, I just want what's best for you!" Yeah, well what's BEST for me is for you to shut the fuck up and stop pressuring me. And stop telling me I can ~change my mind any time I want to~. SEXUALITY DOESN'T WORK LIKE THAT, OKAY? IT'S NOT SOMETHING THAT I CAN JUST ~TURN OFF~ BECAUSE YOU WANT ME TO BE ~HAPPY~ AND APPARENTLY I CAN ONLY BE HAPPY IN A SEXUAL RELATIONSHIP WITH SOMEONE WITH GENTLEMAN PARTS.

Is it okay if I go back to calling her a Total Bitch now? I went the whole other thread without saying it once! :D

Yes, Timemonkey. You can go back to calling Iseul that.

Hey, I just noticed: the strip doesn't begin with the letter "U," but it does begin with a word that sounds like it. Kind of like "cue" in the "Q" chapter.

If scorning people (behind their backs) who blame their travel agency for their own pregnancy is bitchy, I'm not sure I want to be nice.

(I mean, yes, there are other and more questionable things Iseul is doing here, but she was doing those before this, so I don't get why this should be the tipping point. Elizabeth isn't intrigued by her anger, Elizabeth is intrigued by what seems to motivate that anger.)

Well, this is further confirmation that Iseul knew more than she let on, if even one of her clients had picked up on her motives in setting her daughter up with boys. Whatever the hell is about to go on between these three. (A travel agent in a disintegrating long-term relationship gives me a certain grim amusement.)

Still think* she's Fi's sister in henna rinse - the real reason the flashbacks are in greyscale.

*May not actually think this. All rights to ruthless mockery of anyone who believes he thinks this reserved.

Learning more about Sara's mother does explain her vague attraction to Daphne.

To which Iseul would reply "I did." Without a trace of irony.

Ugh. I just. Ugh. Iseul is like a big amalgamation of all the worst parts of both my parents with none of the fun stuff thrown in. Definitely a least favorite character. (She does have a point or two over my dad, though: he doesn't wait to hang up the phone to start yelling and calling people idiots.)

She reminds me of the mother of my novel's central character, actually. Though, Theo is nothing like her father.
There was a girl who had a little curl right in the middle of her forehead, and when she was good, she was very, very good, and when she was bad she was homicidal.

Wat.

People can and do find out about other people's kids without sleeping with them. Most of the time, actually.

And it also seems pretty darn obvious that this little tirade is the exact point where Elizabeth comes to the conclusion that Iseul is (1) intriguing, and (2) achievable. (Though I must admit that I have no idea what about this little whispered tirade sets off E's gaydar here.

I agree with bunnythor about the timing, however I don't believe Elizabeth's gaydar is set off, just that she's attracted and that she sees through the homophobic-aligned exterior. "She's not hateful" She's attracted enough to make the attempt to find out for sure later obviously.

Unless it's set off by you know...fucking breeders amirite?

She's probably in the closet professionally, just to forestall drama and angst. Or simply neglects to say her SO is a woman too.

That or she's got a stable of in-the-closet emotional train-wrecks to do her chores for her. The self hating lesbian who does her taxes and has 1 six inch tongue, maybe a pre-op trans to wash her car... that nice football player who likes tight ends to clean her pool and beard for her. Truly, she could be the Tom Sawyer of emotional dependance.

I don't quite get it.

If Iseul's the accountant, why does it sound like she's just run customer service for Elizabeth's travel agency? Why is she answering Elizabeth's phone?

Either she's multi-talented ;p or I guess the call managed to escalate beyond the normal customer service channels... when I worked customer service I had some really "stupid" calls that managed to escalate all the way to the office of the president.
