Actually, I'm pretty sure "sir" can be used for either/any sex, at least in some cases. It's just traditionally male, and there are plenty of ladies who wouldn't like being called "sir" in day-to-day conversation. I, myself, much prefer "ma'am," but I wouldn't blow a gasket if someone said "sir," especially if my gender identity hasn't been made clear (as I believe Bubbles' was not at the time of that quote, since she was rather new to the board).
You are more lenient than I would be...
