That's not beer, Sara. It's a Budweiser.

Got it in one, Sara. Cider, on the other hand, may actually be some kind of beverage (where beer is not).

My granddad once showed my Dad the logo on one of his beer brands. It involved a cowboy riding a bucking, anatomically-correct horse. He then told my Dad that logo was unique in that it had both the brand's name and brewery on the label.

Had a friend who made the same comparison about the taste. I remember tasting some non-alcoholic beer and as bitter as it was, I agree with the analogy.

Beer, liquor, and alcohol in general are an acquired taste. Not for everyone, as Sara has just found out. I'm a teetotaler by necessity (Type 1 Diabetic AND Alcoholic Genes) but if that wasn't the case, chances are I'd still prefer beverages that actually taste pleasant.

In time Lisa and Sara will learn their are other tickets to inebriation. At the risk of perpetuating a stereotype most women I know prefer wine, but there are also the mixed drink crowd and some who can stomach the hard stuff.

The thing about beer is you can only get really wasted on it if you drink a lot consecutively. I think it's good for a party atmosphere not just because it wears down inhibitions, but it also dulls your taste buds so if the food is lousy you won't notice.

I didn't like beer until I was about 35. Nasty stuff.

Wine (with strong exception to Champagne. Ick!) often tastes better(or so I'm told,) especially variants like mead (just drink it warm)

Then there's wine coolers and such. Sara might answer the call of Barney Gumble yet. Think she'll find herself waking up next to Sandra (Menage a 3 ref) in the future?

While we're at it, Bud and Ecstasy? Not unheard of amongst curious University students...

On a different, but still strip-related, topic, I notice that Lisa has a tendency to assume that Sara, because of her wandering eye, has as casual an attitude to actually having sex as she does. I say tendency because this is the second time we've seen it. The previous day (in comic time), when Lisa apologizes for not having done the sock-on-doorknob thing when she had Chrissie over, she says, "I just figured you seemed pretty close to scorin' yourself, so it wouldn't be an issue." (Guess Sara's "I don't think I 'score'" didn't register.)

Now as assumptions go, granted, that's not the most unreasonable one Lisa could make about her friend, given that Sara visibly has got sex on the brain a lot. But again, ogling and fantasizing aren't the same as actually boinking, casually or otherwise. So Lisa, even though she herself doesn't think casual sex is wrong (clearly), could do with being more careful about making such assumptions out loud.

Unless, of course, Sara goes on to prove her right by saying, "Love, schmove, I just wanna do some muff-diving." But that wouldn't be in character for her. :P

Maybe if she punishes herself with a couple more Buds....

Saying you don't like beer because of American light lager is like saying you don't like all food because of that Sardinian cheese where maggots leap out at you when you eat it.

Oh.

Oh god.

I Googled it. Why did I google it?

Now I'm caught in a state of being afraid of this cheese and wanting to try it just because it's illegal in the US. I have to eat the illegal cheese.

Also I like Miller Genuine Draft and Heineken, but Budweiser isn't beer, it's like, technically rice wine or something. Really. Look it up.

Colt .45 is good, too, but it's not beer, either.

Awww...it's not that bad. If you don't want to eat the maggots, stick the cheese in a paper bag and that will kill off the maggots.

I love beer and always have, and since I quit drinking it's the only thing I can bear to drink(slight fondness for jager aside, but jager is too pricy for me to have it on a regular basis). Then again I've heard some awful things about American beer, and I don't trust anything with "Lite" in the name...

That aside, why are we all discussing beer instead of how awesome Sara is at being a good college student? Way to go Sara <3.

And then you eat dead maggots instead of live ones.

I have never like the taste(Or after taste) of any beer I have tried. Or wines. Or anything "strong". It tastes like piss(Just sayin'. I'm sure piss tastes even better than that crap)

My addiction to pepsi is enough, thank you very much.
Keep smiling! It makes people wonder what you've been up to :D

Have to weigh in with all the Budweiser hate. Most American beers, to me, taste like badly flavored water, and Bud's no exception. The richer beers (Guinness Extra Stout for one... blehhh, liquid mud) tend to be TOO rich for my palette. One of the few I've ever found satisfactory is Smithwick's ale... and I'm gladder than I can say that it's become easier to find on this side of the Atlantic.

Also, uh, hi all. Been a long time lurker, having stumbled onto Penny and Aggie around the time of Penny's rainbow dream, thanks to talk on LiveJournal that one of the Waltrip brothers, favorites of mine thanks to the Robotech comics way back when, was doing a web comic with yuri themes. Pleased to be here, greatly appreciative of the creative team)s)... and mildly amused that talk about BEER, of all things, finally prompted me to say something here.

Heineken isn't beer either :p

Grimbergen (dobbel for preference), Westmalle, Cinay, Guldendraak, ...

Those are more deserving of the term.

In my opinion though, over 95% of all beers out there are pretty awful to drink. There's a few I'm willing to have a single pint of to be sociable, but barely any I'll drink because I actually want to taste them.
