1: Pita bread and garlic hummus for snacking.
2: A robust chili is excellent on a cold day; alternately, a good tortilla soup.
2: For a light meal, sushi and sashimi, possibly with a maki or two.
3: For heftier fare, an Italian-beef sandwich. Note: Some of you may be picturing the anemic French Dip, or the dreary Philly cheesesteak, or, worst of all, an Arby's roast beef sandwich. Do not confuse these lesser beasts for a proper Italian Beef. Done right, it is a thing of flavor and juicy perfection--a three-part harmony of french bread, Italian seasonings and tender meat shavings, topped with giardiniera and provolone cheese (these two are allegedly optional or varied; view people who talk about sweet peppers or cheddar cheese with extreme suspicion). If you're really hungry, make it a combo (there's an Italian sausage, preferably a spicy one, hidden underneath the mountain of beef).
4: For dessert, opt for green tea or red bean ice cream if looking to go light. For a snacking pastry, baklava. If the dessert is more of a stand-alone thing (say, following a movie, when dinner was eaten beforehand), tiramisu or a white chocolate raspberry cheesecake.

I can. Totes purple. Purplepurplepurple! (So, I love the main site's design.)

Purple all the way, muthafuckas. <3

Also, I forgot tea. Does tea count as a food? I fucking love tea. And coffee, when it's good. Columbian roast and Seattle's Best #4 are my favorites.

Green represent! Purple's a close second though.

Omg, I think tea should totally count. I seriously drink tea constantly while I'm sitting in my house. Favorites include Earl Grey (hot) and rooibos. Also green tea with honey. And my Sleepytime Vanilla before bed most nights (mornings for most of you--night shifter). Aaaand yes to coffee as well (black, no sugar)! My brother got me a coffee grinder for Christmas. It is currently rocking my life. I love Kona, but really only had it once because of the price. I usually go for whatever dark roast coffee looks good.

Oh and I also just remembered how amazing frico and polenta are. And egg sandwiches. I could eat egg sandwiches every day. Ohgod.

Yellooooowwww. *waves bright yellow flag*

@MudFlap33: I want you to know, your voice-in-my-head spontaneously changed to Patrick Stewart's temporarily when I read the bit about Earl Grey.

edit: By the way, is anyone else just hanging around while they obsessively refresh the front page every ten minutes or so waiting for the new page to come out? Just me? Okay then. *goes back to camping*

I love hummus so much, especially with red roasted peppers.

Is the Sleeyptime Vanilla by Celestial Seasonings? I have plain Sleepytime and Sleepytime Extra by them.

That reminds me...I recently discovered Egg Hats (AKA Egg in a Frame, Egg in a Basket, Egg in a Hole, Egg in a Window)...

I had never had them before, and when I'd heard of them, I'd thought 'what's the point'...as it turns out, they are rather tastier than simple egg and toast. And so easy to make (so long as I don't try to make them over easy...that never goes well for me, and the bread part, sadly, doesn't make it easier).
Can you hear me boy? Your devil is here!

I also love Earl Grey! *high-fives*
Never been that big on green tea, honestly. It's alright. Rooibos I've only had a couple of times, iced. S'pretty good. I've never had white tea, but I'm curious about it. Chamomile is my herbal tea of choice, but I've got a thing for peppermint, too.

Coffee... I actually always drown mine in sugar and half-and-half. XD But the roast still makes a difference, so I guess I don't drown it too much. I would kill for a raspberry mocha. My espresso machine is still packed up, plus I lack the syrups anyway.

But yeah, gimme a decent cup of hot black tea, a spoon of sugar and a teensy splash of milk. I will be a very contented Valerie. Is it obvious that I'm 1/4 English? >_> Well, I suppose the surname gives it away.

Oh, I also made a blueberry tea latte once. It was pretty good. You take two herbal blueberry tea bags, boil 2/3 cup of water and steep them. Then you steam 1/3 cup of milk (skim milk; the fat from any other milk makes it curdle). And, y'know, sugar or whatever if you like that.

Oo, food! My favorite!
I love pasta. Any dish can be saved if there's pasta. If I'm cooking for myself, I almost always end up with spaghetti, mincemeat and tomato sauce.
Also, I only recently realised what's the deal with bacon. My flatmate made me some comfort food (bacon and eggs) because I was complaining <3
What else.... There's this hamburger joint nearby that serves exquisite 250g (that's roughly .5 pounds, in case someone here does not talk metric) hamburgers. It needs to be eaten with half a litre of milk.
For dessert stuff, tiramisu, cheesecake, chocolate (Fazer chocolate here is the best. It's apparently only one in Finland that's made with real milk (instead of powdered) and it makes a world of difference!), a whole lot of ice cream (the best part of the surgery was that for a week, I had permission to eat as much ice cream as I possibly could want. And. I. Did.) and sacher cake. I like sweet things.

Oh, and about favorite colors... a specific shade of bluish purple that's so blue it's almost, but not quite, purplish blue. So yeah, technically, purple.

After reading these posts, I had to go and make myself a cup of tea. It's green with jasmine (I am a green tea fan). I also love Earl Grey (no milk, please), Oolong, peppermint, and this delicious rose-flavoured black tea I got in Whittard's (an English tea shop. You probably don't have it over in America. You're missing out). Ooh, and Twining's cherry and cinnamon. White tea is nice, too - you should try it, Val - very delicate flavour and much lower caffeine content than black or even green teas. Oh, and flowering tea is amazing. So pretty. Being a Brit, all my tea is served hot.

One of my best friends at university was a massive tea drinker like myself. He'd lived in China for a decade, which apparently resulted in him knowing a lot about tea - he introduced me to the delights of flowering teas, for example. We spent so much time drinking tea together. It was the best way to cheer up after a bad day, relieve exam stress, or just spend some time talking about life, mathematics and Doctor Who. And I still remember what type of tea we were drinking when we came out to each other.

My favourite colour is red. Red things make me happy.

Also, had another couple over for movie night last night! We showed "Waterboys" (a Japanese movie about a group of high school boys that get tricked into forming a synchronized swimming team). Then we all stayed up talking until 5:00am. Pretty great.

Oh, my gosh. I just thought of the most amazing, happy TV special of all time. Has everyone on this board seen "Free to Be You and Me"? It came out in the mid-'70s (based on a book and record originally). It was brilliant. It's all about being yourself, no matter what that is. I can't find a video of the complete program, but I'll link as many clips as I can find, because I'd highly recommend this to everyone. Keep in mind that it doesn't address that it doesn't address sexuality issues or all current gender issues - it was the '70s. But the general principles of it are that everyone should just be who they are.

Opening credits
Boy Meets Girl
When We Grow Up (with Roberta Flack and Michael Jackson. Try not to smile while watching this; I don't think it's possible for a non-cynic.)
Don't Dress Your Cat in an Apron - Couldn't find the original, but here's a kid reciting the poem, because it's worth hearing.
Parents Are People
Housework - Just the audio from the record.
Ladies First
It's All Right to Cry
William's Doll
Sisters and Brothers
My Dog is a Plumber - again, couldn't find it, but that kid from before is reciting this poem too.
Atalanta

I know these are a lot of clips, but they are pretty smile-creating. If you get a chance to watch any of them, it's worth it.

Oooh, this one is tough to narrow down! Let's see....

* My wife's nacho plates.
* Pizza made by a small shop that knows what it's doing. I like just about anything for toppings. (Except anchovies. Too salty.)
* Steaks hot off the grill with melted butter and mushrooms.
* Bratwurst!
* Polish and Italian sausage
* Sourdough bread
* Bigelow's Constant Comment tea. (Yeah, yeah, I know. No purist drinks tea from a bag. It was my Mom's favorite and now it's mine. Sue me. :) )

Northwoods foods that I grew up with and still remember fondly:
* Hotdish! Best comfort food on the planet!

* Lefse

* Wild fruit -- strawberries, blueberries, raspberries, and blackberries in particular. I like 'em fresh off the vine or on top of cereal. Or ice cream. Yummy!
* Jams and pies made with same. Yum!

* Apples, crabapples, and pin cherries picked right from the tree.

* Carrots right out of the garden. Knock off the dirt and chow down. :)

* Walleye, fresh out of the lake and into a frying pan. Best served with butter, lemon, and just a touch of cracked black pepper. (Don't overdo it or you'll overwhelm the delicate flavor of the fish.)
* A mess of sunfish and perch, also fresh out of the lake. Serve in beer batter with a side of homemade Tartar sauce
* Smoked fish of almost any type, although I'm partial to sucker.
* Pickled fish, especially northern pike.

* Ruffed grouse breast. Cook 'em like you would a Cornish hen as they're about the same size. Like most wild game, though, you have to be careful not to let them dry out because of the low fat content.

* Venison, whether it's steak, pot roast, or sausage.

I have a double-themed one, as it both makes me happy and revolves around food. (Also, despite it being a simple mix that I just follow the directions on, I am apparently awesome at making it ((somehow...? o.o)) as every time I have, I've gotten compliments on how rich it tastes.)

Opening the cabinet - and seeing that me madre has bought a brownie mix. California Walnut, in the case of the latest batch. :D

I also have an amusing story to share about the first batch I ever made, but that'll be another time.

A happy thing: My professor supporting my use of 'fancy-pants radio' as a technical term during our class discussion about news sources. \o/

Dear Happythreaders,

Please to be telling me your favorite movie kthx.

(Mine is Robin Hood: Men in Tights, but I'll watch anything with Mel Brooks' name on it.

Multiple times.

A day.)
