This is the only post I'll need to make in this thread for about the next two weeks, I think.

136 books brought in today from the "storage area" (translation: the plastic bins in the back yard in which a good portion of our stuff resides. stupid worthless shed I could dropkick down the street. stupid lack of a garage. grumble grumble, mutter mutter...)
All shelved.
All with absolutely no damage to them.
A bookshelf now filled past overflowing, after over a year of being pretty empty. (hmm, probably should've taken a "before" and "after" set of pictures...)

In fact, heck with this, I've got lots of old friends to get reacquainted with. :D

(Oh, and the two funniest things I've heard today:
*a group of friends playing Wii Sports Resort, they pick Archery and are picking their Miis*
"I'm gonna pick SpecialBoy!"
"Do you *really* want him holding a bow and arrow?"
(disclaimer: this is not meant as a knock at anyone, it's a legit question when you think about it)

And:
"Little did they know that Little Billy's last wish wasn't actually to compete in an archery contest, but to hunt the deadliest game.")
Stand tall and shake the heavens.

Beep beep, I'm a jeep.

Ohh, good one. Especially for people with self esteem issues like me. Gonna try this.

What about yourself, Adrishiana?

  1. I'm certifiably more intelligent than 98% of the population. Any fellow Mensans here, by the way?
  2. I value, and strive to practise, humanity, tolerance, and brotherly love towards my fellow human beings.
  3. I'm completely fluent in two languages (plus one dialect variant of one of them), can with some difficulty converse in two more and have some knowledge to varying degrees of a few others.
  4. I have a university degree in mathematics. Which I actually don't make use of.
  5. I have such a memory for facts that other people turn to me as a repository of knowledge.
  6. I have extended family in eight countries on two or three (depending on how you count) continents.
  7. I have visited twelve countries (not including my own) by train. Also been to eight others using other means of transport.
  8. I have, and pay for, my own place to live.
  9. I live in a time and place where I can afford and enjoy lots of things that make life more pleasant to the point of taking them for granted, like running hot (oh yes, by the way, my water heater has been fixed) and cold water, flush toilets, a working sewer system, electricity, a refrigerator, an easy to use stove and oven, a washing machine and dryer, radio and TV, instant long-distance voice communication (called the telephone system), etc. etc.
Mobile phones, personal computers and the Internet too, but I'm old enough to remember the times before these were common.
  10. And while I'm at it: I have grown to middle age, and appear not unlikely to live out my entire life, without ever having been in a war.

1.) I have an incredible amount of patience.
2.) I seem to be very good at talking with people who are upset, helping them to calm down, and then working together to find a solution.
3.) Despite how bummed I am about where I am in C25K, I am STILL going to go "running."
4.) ...Ten is a lot of things... I got my toe in the door for a possible job with the government (that would give me clearance).
5.) Um... I made the difficult decision to break up with a guy who I was convinced would be the best I could ever do, and am currently dating a guy who I always considered to be the standard of "what a guy should be."
6.) ...Really? Ten? That's so many... Despite how teaching left a sour taste in my mouth, I'm still trying to do the thing that I love and am currently working part time at a learning center. Which has been pretty okay.
7.) I'm improving at swing dancing to the point where I can follow a lead and still focus on stylistic choices.
8.) I have a good relationship with my brother. Abnormally good. I mean, I'm frustrated when I live in his house because he has no concept of being quiet ever, but we're supportive of each other and talk to each other about (almost) EVERYTHING. And we do stuff together like swing dance and games night.
9.) This will sound totally lame, but I'm growing my hair out for the first time in five years (I usually kept it cut around my ears), and I'm really enjoying it. I miss doing stuff with my hair, and now I can put it in a ponytail!
10.) Oh man oh man only one more... I'm a pretty decent cook. I have an Italian mother who gave me a good sense of food, and so I can easily just go "Hm, this smells good together," and throw stuff together to make it edible AND tasty. (My boyfriend is REALLY excited about this because he grew up on frozen dinners, and so now we cook food together.)

Oh man that took me about twenty five minutes to complete. Geez that was near impossible.

Oooh, you swing dance? I love swing dancing! I'm not very good, but I can follow and lead (I have a terrible time keeping rhythm when I lead, though).

:D This is worth a "happy things" post. You continued my song. <3

Also throwing out there that, for anyone following the Sexual Harassment Saga of Val, one of the owners talked to me today and assured me that I can call her cellphone any time if there's a problem, and that she's willing to transfer me if I want to go to a different store or even fire the people that bother me if they don't stop.

"Well, except I guess I can't fire [other owner who was giving Val problems]."
"Are you sure? *laughs* I'm just kidding."
I totally wasn't kidding.

So I'm feeling very secure and am aware that I have sufficient back-up should this continue to be an issue. This is how any problem of this sort should be handled. <3

Yay Val! You rock, girl.

I got a new haircut yesterday. Already got a compliment on my new haircut, too. :D

OK, so I tend to put off getting my hair cut for so long that it really shows when I do.

Looks apart, it's also great to have my hair so short that I can just rub it dry with my towel after a shower and shampoo.

Funny, if I enjoy having short hair that much, then why am I still not motivated to get it cut more often? *shrug*

Go you, getting complimented and feeling good and stuff! :D I need to get mine cut again soon too, it's long enough to put in a ponytail now and with summer coming up... But meh, can't be arsed. vOv

I do rock. 8) 'Cause I ain't takin' no shit from no MAN. Or woman, but this way sounded funnier.

As far as hair goes, I'm in the same boat as CJ. I'm excited that I can make a ponytail, even if it is a pathetically short one. I've mentioned it before, but my hair used to be to my hips. I cut it to I-couldn't-make-a-ponytail length about a month before graduating high school. It's stayed barely-touching-the-shoulders length or shorter since then. The last time I cut it (because I cut my own hair), it was the shortest it's ever been, maybe about two inches. That was... months and months ago. I'm thinking of letting it grow to mid-length, I think, just because I kinda miss long ponytails, braids, etc. Short hair is much easier to manage, though...

And NobodySpecial, I can start you off with one thing: your username is a lie. :P

1)I'm really fond of myself. I mean, sure, there's room for improvements, and some serious flaws, but I really like myself, y'know?
2)As family videos have revealed to me, I was already practicing sesquipedalian loquaciousness back in elementary school.
3)I've got some rockin' imagination. It veers toward hard science, and I'm totally cool with that.
4)When I was seven and learning how to read? Some of the earliest books I read were Jules Verne.
5)I'm actually not that bad a writer. I've got Saga of Soul going on, lots of people find my pony reviews hilarious, and I wrote the most epic Care Bears fanfic series ever.
6)I'm fluent in three languages.
7)I run pretty awesome RPG campaigns.
8 )I've put in significant effort into helping depressive acquaintances on the Internet.
9)I'm the single most honest person I know.
10)When I have lunch at this place near work, I regularly pay in advance, anonymously, for the dessert of whoever gets one next. One time, someone figured out it was me and returned the favor.

This is pretty much what happened to me. 1.) I was working at the RenFaire, and was getting my hair done by the braiders there, and I really wanted this one look (called "The Fraggle," which looks like Red's hair), but the bottom half of my hair was too short. So I wanted to start growing my hair out so I could have that style. And 2.) later I was cleaning my place when I found old hair chopsticks, clips, and all sorts of things I used to put in my hair that I can't anymore, and I miss them. It's silly, I know, but I miss being able to DO things with my hair.

Hey--I say pretty much the same thing! I tell people "I am probably the most honest person you will ever meet." I hate lying, and it's easier if you're just open and honest about things (so long as you're polite about it, too).

Ok, now that I have the jokes out of the way.

1) Honest as the day is long.
2) Shirt off the back loyal to my friends.
3) Used to be a decent chessplayer.
4) Yeah, that's enough.

Funny, given your current avatar you'd imagine a ponytail would just be the way to go.

Happy stuff for today: Just came back from a games night with a group of fellow Mensans, accompanied by an Italian-style pizza and a nice glass of Chianti (that's an Italian kind of red wine). Now having a nice hot cup of rooibos tea to round off the day.

This is what my hair is doing lately. It used to be this long, but I got sick of it last summer and had it all chopped off. With summer here I want to cut it all off again so that it won't start giving me headaches like before.
