If this is indeed what's going on, Lisa would not be the first teenager (even at her age, although this seems to be more common among slightly younger people) to think "suffering = special." That said, still kind of hope Hank goes, ".... ....... ..........SERIOUSLY?"

The same can be said for Sarah's reaction to her Korean mother's unsupportive response to her daughter coming out of the closet. It could have been a lot worse.

That includes Aggie experiences (or lack of them) with BS, mediocrity, and the sub-white collar world in general. The sad part is that I think it'll stay that way.

Don't get me started on how nigh-utopian conditions were at Belleville High. Seriously, as wonderful as Penny and Aggie was, it also felt like reading one of those annual How Much Famous People Earn articles from People Magazine at times... *sigh*

Hank and the QUILTBAG setting in general fixes that by how P&A's Sarah and Lisa both enter and begin to compare themselves, and their perspectives, to the world beyond the ivory tower of uptown Belleville.

Yes, so much. I'm normally all "RRGH MUST DEFEND LISA" but that comment is definitely the most inappropriate thing she's said yet. Again, benefit of the doubt, totally agree, etc. etc., but she does need to be called out on it.

*Not actually a linguist.

I think it is to indicate that "Maya" and the "meye(r)" in "Winklemeyer" sound about the same. And that's why Hank thinks Maya is Lisa self-insert in the story.

This!

As someone whose absolute weak point is the topic of rape/sexual abuse and who can't imagine anything worse happening to someone, I'm really curious to see how this scene proceeds.
I like Lisa, still do. But this was not the smartest of her comments.

Yeah I'm gonna just... sit here and wait to see what happens. Hopefully she'll be called out on it and she'll explain she actually met that she just wishes she had something that bad to justify being angsty over. Which is silly, because you can sulk in bed and have a bad day without being /raped/ for chrissake.

It's really only my faith in T as a writer that's keeping me from going Enraged Feminist Abuse Survivor on Lisa. xD

Quoting Aggie from memory:
Aggie wrote:What the Hell, Lisa? What the helling Hell?

Seriously, up until someone (CEOIII?) provided a possible explanation, I thought that was inexplicable. Even then... When I started reading today's strip, I was squeeing about my two favorite characters interacting. Now I'm confused, and it's not just the pills.
Pardon my inglese, and sorry for not making sense.

EDIT 1: Warning: dark humor ahead, which someone I have a lot of respect for interpreted differently from how I meant it. I'll explain what I did mean in a second edit, just putting this warning here before I offend a lot of people...

My first thought: "Lisa wishes to be sexually abused? Someone call that Dasolushion trollperson, his services are needed in-comic!"

EDIT 2:
I was trying to point out Lisa said something absolutely horrible and ridiculous, and did so by putting it in the perspective of that offensive trollfic. I do not want her to be abused for what she said, so don't actually want someone to call the troll and somehow put him in the comic.
If a real person had said the thing Lisa said, my reply would have been "So you wish [insert description of abuse here]? Would you mind thinking before speaking?". The thing above was meant more or less the same way (I could try telling Lisa off but she wouldn't hear me), wrapped in a joke. And by wrapping it in a joke I made a similar mistake...

With the strange Lisa expressions and her hair down I keep expecting to hear "What goes on four legs in the morning, on two legs at noon, and on three legs in the evening?"

An orgy.

I have a sneaking suspicion that, if we could see the next thing Lisa says, instead of the conversation currently ending on "I wish", it would be a lot less jarring. But I speculate.
Nice to see Hank show concern for the freshmen.

This update could have been in Klingon for all the sense it's making to me. Either Hank's trying WAY too hard or he's dumber than a post. And I'm starting to think Chrissie is a woman with a strap on, and she left it inserted in Lisa's backside when she fled.

For some reason, Hank's reasoning interests me more than Lisa's response.

...The train of thought seems..
.....very..particular. How -quick- he goes to THAT area of assumption. It may be just me tho..

Well, given that what we saw of the story focused on people being sexually abused, you can see where he got the idea from. He also says he thought it was "a possibility", not that he thought it was certain. It might be that he thinks it's a remote possibility, but he's chosen to err on the side of caution by bringing it up: if he brings it up and learns Lisa's actually doing fine, there's some embarassment but no major harm done; if it does happen to be something Lisa's struggling with and nobody offers her support, the potential consequences are hideous.
